The Diseases of Kings

The picture of me that you see above is from a few days ago when I traveled to Saint Simons Islands and stayed at the Marina on a boat there. I am 37 years old in that picture, at my ideal weight, more active physically and mentally than ever in my life, and absolutely healthy.

I used to be very sick: from stomach ulcers and yeast infections to fungus on my toes and constant sinus issues – I was sick and hospitalized for months every year. How did I transform my health? The answer is very simple: by fasting on water, eating a whole foods plant-based diet, and practicing self-care daily.

Excessive body fat causes various diseases, previously known as “The Diseases of Kings” because only rich people were able to afford dietary excess. Today, both in America where I live and globally, dietary excess is a worldwide epidemic causing people to be supersized and super-inflamed, which leads them to suffer every day of their lives and die prematurely.

What are those diseases caused by bad food, processed food, fast food, junk food, and excess food? See below.

The Diseases of Kings

  • Metabolic syndrome
  • Obesity (also called diabesity)
  • Diabetes (type two, which is a lifestyle illness)
  • Sleep apnea from fat in the neck
  • Cholecystitis (inflammation of the gallbladder)
  • Kidney stones (renal calculi, nephrolithiasis, urolithiasis)
  • Osteoporosis (bone-thinning disease)
  • Arthritis (gout from he diet high in meat)
  • High blood pressure
  • High cholesterol
  • Autoimmune disease
  • Heart diseases
  • Peripheral artery disease
  • Coronary artery disease
  • Stroke
  • Cancer
  • Alzheimer’s
  • Dementia
  • Parkinson’s
  • Other brain diseases and self-inflicted illnesses
  • Acne (caused by meat and dairy products consumption)

I don’t want to have any of the above diseases. Water fasting results in wellness and longevity. No one is going to live forever. One day, when my time is up, I will die. Until then, I want to live my life fully alive, completely functional, physically and mentally able, and enjoy my life to the fullest.

Being sick, medicated, tortured in a hospital till my last day – none of it sounds good to me. So, if I want to be healthy, adventurous, and active, what do I need to do?

I need to do what my ancestors did: eat lots of plant-based foods, sleep when it’s dark outside, fast often to allow my body to use up its fat storages, avoid eating food-like crap, and spend time outside exercising daily. By following these simple secrets, I stay healthy and fit, though my entire family is obese and sick.

I thank God for my health and ability to fast.

The high prevalence of overweight and obesity continues to be alarming, as such conditions are usually accompanied by health complications resulting from metabolic diseases, diabetes, cancer, and cardiovascular disease.

This situation is expected to worsen with the rampant spread of physical inactivity. However, fasting and exercise training are non-pharmacological and inexpensive ways to help manage obesity- and overweight-related complications.

Many people fast for health, religious, or cultural reasons.

Fasting is defined as the abstinence from consuming food and/or beverages for different periods of time, which can last from several hours a day to a few weeks.

Fasting is associated with increased longevity because of its many roles in modifying human health and aging. Moreover, this unique intervention is considered effective for the management of chronic and acute diseases in both traditional and modern healthcare systems. Fasting is a lifestyle management strategy that benefits several chronic, non-infectious diseases

Exercise Training and Fasting: Current Insights

Fasting on water is the key to my healthy body, glowing skin, clear mind, spiritual wellbeing, and lots of energy. So, let me share with you how I’ve gained my 24 hour water fast experience in the last two years.

Initially, I was documenting my journey on vlogs but later I discovered that the Bible teaches us to fast in secret, so I fast in secret these days and document my experiences in a diary, which I later share with you on this blog to help you, support you, and encourage you to fast regularly.

My One Day Water Fast Success

I have a record of each 24 hour water fast instance I ever did. For the first time ever I did it on March 27th 2018, which was prompted by my desire to rid myself of depression and suicidal ideation completely and to speed up my narcissistic abuse recovery. The results were excellent, and I was so excited to have discovered this amazing free wellness tool!

On July 2nd 2018, I did it again, which was my second water fast ever as well as that year. I did it at home on my own and vlogged every time to help others on the same journey. You can access my entire YouTube playlist with 15 water fasting vlog videos.

On December 23rd 2018, I did my third water fast that year and ever, and it was Christmas. I fasted because my neighbor lost her gallbladder to surgery due to bad eating habits, which devastated and spooked me. I fasted on Christmas also for spiritual reasons and was able to draw closer to God.

On April 15th 2020, which was my fourth time fasting on water ever and the first time this year. My reasons were many: spiritual, mental, emotional, physical, and cultural. I described them all in a diary here: “Why I Did a Water Fast.”

On April 18th 2020 I fasted for 24 hours successfully again, which was my fifth time completing a 1 day water fast. It was the time when I was trying to go for the full five days but couldn’t. I described my water fasting experience in a diary called “My 5-Day Water Fast Failures.”

On April 30th 2020 I completed my sixth 1 day water fast ever and third this year. That was the first time I was able to do a successful five day water fast this year, which I documented in great detail in a diary called “My 5-Day Water Fast Success.”

On May 22nd 2020 I did my seventh one day water fast when trying to establish a regular habit of fasting on water to maintain healthy weight, use the fat my body stored, lean of God wholeheartedly and consistently, mitigate the risk of obesity and diseases associated with excessive body fat, as well as to surrender my desires and renew my mind.

On May 27th 2020, while trying the OMAD diet, which I will be publishing on this blog soon, I completed my eighth 24 hour water fast while prolonging my time between two feedings, one a day.

On June 22nd 2020 I did a 1 day water fast again for the ninth time ever and sixth time this year. After that, I traveled to St. Simons Islands and there, unfortunately, ate animal products, feeling terribly sick after my trip. So, I fasted to heal.

On July 8th, I did my water fast for the tenth time! It lasted more than 24 hours. I did a 36 hour fast. After all the animal products I ate prior to that fast, I broke it after 36 hours due to a terrible headache. Yet, I was committed to my new lifestyle of water fasting. This was my seventh fast in 2020, which is really inspiring me to continue my journey.

On July 21st, I did my water fast for the eleventh time, which was my eighth time this year. I’ve written tens of thousands of words of helpful content on this topic. Sharing is caring. I care about your health and want to encourage you to fast on water regularly as a way to consistently optimize and improve your overall health.

My 1 Day Water Fasting Journal

The picture above is my picture from a few weeks ago when I did my first this year and overall fourth 5 day water fast. Below, I am going to share with you some of my journals from a 24 hour water fast. Several of them will demonstrate my successful completion of the 1 day fast. Others will be the diaries showing you my failures. Why share both?

When you decide to try water fasting, it won’t be easy. In fact, it’s unnatural to fast on water when food is available all around you. Your brain is designed to pursue food, especially high in caloric density. But remember that your brain evolved pursuing fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds. Whole foods and whole grains are natural to eat. Processed food-like substances, junk food-like substances, salty and crunchy food-like substances – are all manufactured by scientists and drug experts to manipulate your brain into food addictions and binge-eating.

Consuming food-like substances is unnatural and harmful to you. It leads to the diseases of kings I described above. Fasting by forcing a famine on yourself is also unnatural for your instincts in an environment of dietary excess. When you actually see everyone feasting everywhere but you tell your brain to fast, the journey won’t be easy.

You must make a difficult decision: to be constantly sick with the “diseases of kings” resulting from consuming food-like substances manufactured by profit-driven companies who want to make money off of your illnesses or to be periodically uncomfortable from fasting on water and living a long healthy life in a fully-functioning body.

I must make the same decision. When? Daily!

That is why sometimes I fail and sometimes I succeed at fasting on water. If you’re beginning your journey, you probably feel lonely or even stupid because of the pushback you receive from everyone around you. It’s normal. People want you to be like them. They don’t want you to be too different because if you lose weight and get healthy, that will cause them to feel bad about themselves. There’s an excellent documentary demonstrating this. It’s called “Fork Your Diet” and shows how two friends embarked on a weight loss adventure but only one lost weight through hard work. The guy who remained fat and chubby (Mike) said to the guy who got fit and happy: “I hate you because I’m jealous.”

So, people will talk you out of fasting. It’s true.

Also, you will feel hunger and cravings.

It’s very important that you know you’re not alone.

That’s the reason why I am sharing my unedited, honest, painful, exciting, struggle-filled, torturous, victorious, vulnerable, candid, and unique water fasting diary below. It’s one of a kind. My hope is to encourage you to try water fasting again and again and again. I want to empower you to commit to fasting on water and make it a lifelong habit.

My First 24 Hour Water Fast 3-27-2018

In 2017, after my divorce with the narcissist, I was on a long and lonely road to depression recovery. One day, after watching a couple of documentaries about factory farming and industrial meat and dairy practices, I realized that eating dead animals can not possibly not make me depressed. So, I ditched animal products and went vegan. Yet, I had cravings, so a week later, I tried fasting on water.

That was how my first water fast came about. I didn’t know much about fasting, so I did my best. Yet, now I know that using infused water is more of a restricted feeding than water fasting. Why? Because it still delivers sugar to your brain and it still has some calories.

These days, I fast on plain water.

My Second 24 Hour Water Fast 7-2-2018

I recovered from depression and got a new marketing job at a tech startup. It was such a miserable environment where not only turnover was high, leadership was incompetent, and people were scared, there was also a practice of non-stop eating and food-chatting wide-spread.

I had never seen people come to work and eat, then eat all day, take lunch and eat, eat snacks after that, and continue talking about food all da long, every day. Food was an obsession at that company. So, as soon as I had a few days to work from home, I did my second water fast.

It was the one and only time when I vomited bile.

My Third 24 Hour Water Fast 12-23-2018

Time passed, I left that job, and got a new job as another tech startup. One night, my neighbor asked me to take his wife to the hospital. She was passing kidney stones. My aunt had this happened to her all the time, and she ate meat, dairy, and lots of fat every day. My aunt was the fattest of the three daughters who survived my grandma’s mothering.

This aunt was the youngest and the fattest.

I still remember visiting er in a dark hospital and witnessing her suffering. All my aunts are smokers and alcoholics as well. I knew from that experience as a young teen, seeing my aunt in excruciating pain, that passing kidney stoney was no joke. I also knew that this disease was lifestyle-related and self-inflicted.

As I rushed my neighbor to the ER, I prayed to Jesus.

There, I watched her being sold on a very expensive gallbladder surgery by a very skilled salesman called “doctor.” The average cost of the gallbladder surgery is $30,000. She could have eaten lots of fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and legumes on a $30,000 food budget and avoided the surgery. That night, I was devastated to see my neighbor being helpless in that cold dark ER room, treated as a commodity, being just a number on a hospital conveyer where all that counts is the billed revenue from drugs and surgeries.

Eating well is the way to avoid operations, drugs, hospitals, doctors, and diseases. Yet, no one told my neighbor to eat kale, tomatoes, cucumbers, and spinach. Nope, she was told to go under the knife… She had just given birth to her little son. I wept when I drove back. And I was angry.

As soon as I got home, I started fasting on water.

It was my third fast. And it was Christmas.

My Fourth 24 Hour Water Fast 4-15-2020

I didn’t fast in 2019. In 2020, I realized that I was gaining weight and, again, periodically eating animal products. I wanted to do a five-day water fast to clear my palette and reset my body. So, I embarked on a new water fasting adventure described in my blog called “30 Day Water Fast Results.” Below are my journal entries from doing a 24 hour water fast again and again this Spring. I was learning about myself a lot, and my binge-eating disorder, as well as food addiction, were revealed.

Last time I ate was at 11 pm on April 14th, 2020.

I pooped on April 15th at 9:30 am and 3 pm, good quality poop.

I woke up at 9:30 am hungry. Drank water. Pooped a ton of solid, good quality poop immediately.

I worked in bed till 8 pm: wrote the longest blog post on my blog called Narcissistic Mother-Daughter Relationship with 33000 words, edited it, published.

From noon to 5:30 pm, the thoughts about food tortured my mind. I prayed to God to help me. The temptations for food were intense but they weren’t coming from my stomach. They were all coming from my mind – the expectations of how I’d feel if I gave in and ate this or that. Interesting to observe. I gave God my promise so I’m staying committed.

Around 3 pm, I pooped a little bit, which looked like all I had. My weight was 134.4 lb. I walked 10000 steps from 8 to 9:40 pm outside. I feel really good: clear-headed, energized, and alert. No fainting, no aches. My stomach is quiet for the first time in a while. I’m loving it!

I watched 3 videos by Dr. Klaper on water fasting to encourage myself. I am excited! I do feel the hunger in my stomach now. It’s 10:39 pm, I’m showered in bed going to sleep right now. I read for a few minutes.

I’m relaxed, peaceful, and light.

see so much better! My vision is sharp.

My Fifth 24 Hour Water Fast 4-18-2020

As I tried and tried to go on for five days of fasting, I faced some previously unexplored challenges, such as the cultural implications of not eating at all or avoiding certain foods. I had to search with for my fasting reasons but also my vegan reasons. Why did I decide to go vegan? Why was I relapsing over and over again? What was the meaning of food to me? Why was fasting so difficult this time?

I pooped at 3 am with some constipation again. This is torture! I slept well, no hunger in the morning. My weight is 136.3 lb today.

I did some laundry, vacuumed, dusted, took the trash out, and I’m drinking water, not eating.

It’s 5:57 pm. I walked 18000 steps outside. I haven’t eaten. I’m not hungry. I haven’t pooped either.

It’s 10:09 pm I’m going to bed, I did my water fast and I’m back on track, I walked 21000 steps outside today and worked out, I wrote a long blog post, and I read a book. I’m bloated just now but feeling great otherwise!

My weight is 129.2 lb tonight.

My Sixth 24 Hour Water Fast 4-30-2020

The more I learned about fasting, the more breakthroughs I had about myself. I had vivid memories of how food was used to abuse me, how food was leveraged to manipulate me, how food was presented to me as love… My relationship with food was complicated, and it didn’t start yesterday. Years of false beliefs about food and eating all surfaced during my water fasting this Spring. I was on a mission to lose weight, go vegan for life, and heal my childhood trauma as it related to food.

Needless to say, I cried and did a lot of forgiving.

I pooped great quality poop on April 29th at 11:30 pm after eating a salad.

At 11:30 am today I pooped a great deal, one healthy peace, came out easily after some body massage, stretches, and drinking water.

My weight is 127.6 lb.

It’s 1:47 pm, and I feel amazing. I worked out on the floor: legs, butt, plank, and abs. I’m hungry and my stomach is screaming for food but I’m staying home, by myself, on track.

It’s 4:30 pm. I’m so hungry! I have a little headache and I’m a little dizzy. I’m very very cold through NEST shows that it’s 76F inside my home. Wow! Feels like Siberia! I’m writing my blog and I’m fully committed to this water fast this time. I can do all things through Christ!

I am fully dedicated to detoxing and cleansing my body! I know I can do it because I’ve done this before! This time, it’s really hard: I’m hungry physically and also I’m hungry in my mind. I’m experiencing intrusive thoughts about food while working but that’s exactly why I’m doing this water fast.

It’s 7:23 pm. I was so cold, weak, and light-headed, I wasn’t able to finish writing even one blog for my #52Devotionals library of Biblical Affirmations. Now I’m drinking warm water and it’s making me feel better. I’m watching “What The Health” documentary again, learning new information every time I watch it. I’m so grateful that my day one is almost over and I’ve been able to stay committed to fasting on water.

It’s 8:30 pm, I pooped one piece very easily. I took a shower and am going to bed to read and watch a good documentary.

It’s 11:50 pm. I read my devotionals book. I’m going to sleep after watching “The Sugar Film” documentary about sugar-related food addiction. It blew my mind. I started my period and I feel awful but I’m committed to this water fast and I can do all things through Christ.

Food is not my master!

My Seventh 24 Hour Water Fast 5-22-2020

While fasting on water, not only did I do the hard work of trauma healing but also I studied all I could about fasting on water. I read scientific articles, watched scientific presentations, and enthusiastically explored the fasting testimonials of people who’ve done it. Watching fasting documentaries and plant-based documentaries became my new passion. So, I was fasting from food but I was fattening my knowledge library every day. The more I learned, the stronger became my commitment to water fasting. Today, I look back and see how the journey was not only for my own healing but to help others heal.

Hunger: no hunger waking up; it’s 7:15 am and my stomach is growling a little but I’ve learned to recognize real hunger and I know I’m not hungry.

Feelings: I feel empowered and inspired by the fact that I care to take these challenges and do what it takes to help my body with a regular internal cleanup through autophagy.

It’s 10:48 am. I walked and jogged, took my car to get it’s first service, went to Walmart and bought three gifts for my little 4-year-old neighbor, and I’m feeling excellent! There’s of course a strong smell of food at Walmart but I’m neither bothered nor tempted. Glory to God!

It’s 4:44 pm and my waterfast is going really well. I’m not hungry physically but emotionally I am: I love the plant-based food I cook, full of flavors and colors!!! Yum! But I do deserve a break from eating. My body deserves special care. So, I’m staying true to my goals of autophagy and deep cleanse. In the meantime, I had a meeting, took a trip to a store, did some fun activities with the little girl next-door to see if she loved her birthday gifts, and I cooked! I made roasted carrots, Brussels sprouts, sweet potatoes, and pumpkin. Also, I made boiled potatoes and a potato soup. All of that is ready waiting for me in the fridge!

Right now, I’m cooking beans and while they are being done, I’m unloading the dishwasher. Then, I’ll be working out.

It’s 7:38 pm. I worked out a ton, I hula hopped for 45 min, and I ran, which is super-new. I had never been able to run this long ever in my life without getting out of breath and experiencing pains and aches but today I ran a lot, freely, no aches, no pains, no getting out of breath, and all on a 24-hour water fast! Wow!

I am not tired at all so I’m going to do one last workout if the day, take a shower, read, and go to sleep. I’m really impressed with what a water fast can do for an almost 40-year-old woman. I’m grateful!

I feel no hunger pains, no nausea, no headache, no light-headiness, no growling, nothing. I feel on fire! I feel excited! I feel healthy and light!

Poop: none

Bed time: 9:30 pm

My Eighth 24 Hour Water Fast 5-27-2020

The more obvious became my addiction to food, the more I wanted to help myself get rid of it. I realized that I was typically eating any time I wanted, snacking on nuts and fruit all day long. I learned about insulin resistance and ow it causes diabetes, which is why snacking and all-day eating habits are so dangerous. So, I decided to try OMAD: one meal a day. And one day, I decided to push my meal further so that from my lasting eating window to my new meal I would have fasted 24 hours.

I’m almost at my goal weight! Today’s weight is 119.6 lb! Only 3 lb to go from here! I love my fasting and workout journey. I love going to bed hungry and waking up feeling light and excited about the day instead of tired from dinner the night before. I love working out daily! I love not having anxiety about food and being at peace every day. I love not having to snack or worry what to eat throughout the day. I love my body and appreciate the transformation.

Now I want to focus on building abs and triceps so that I can become stronger and more flexible and do more things, like pushups, мостик, шпагат, handstand, as well as carrying all my grocery bags at once from the car to my home, hiking and climbing, and the like.

TODAY I AM GOING FOR A 24-HOUR FAST!

I finished eating at noon yesterday and today I’ll have dinner with Candace at 5 pm, so this OMAD will be another 24-hour fast, which I love!

It’s amazing to see how easily I can now go without food now. I’m really thankful because it allows me to continually optimize my health and not experience all the sufferings of my first water fasting experiences. The human body adopts!

I’m feeling really good today. No headaches, dizziness, weakness, nausea, it growling in my belly. Just peace, clarity, and gratitude. Well, and some small acne from yesterday’s chicken but I know it will go away fast. It’s a good lesson to see how fast animal products cause acne.

Poop: noon.

It’s 10:20 pm and I just got back and settled after my friend’s birthday. I ate everything on the menu!!! I’m so tired!

And I started my period.

I’m going to bed.

My Ninth 24 Hour Water Fast 6-22-2020

Now, fasting on water is a habit. It is a wellness tool, just like working out, lifting weights, hula hooping, hiking, or sleeping. I feast when I eat: lots of colorful vegetables and fruits – check my Instagram for pictures. But in addition to feasting, I also do fasting. We evolved to eat and not eat. Our body is designed in such a way that it stores fat for later when famine comes. Well, in the modern world of dietary excess, famine never comes. I help my body by undergoing a regular famine, just like my ancestors. Allowing my body to use up its storages of fat, I stay in great shape and avoid the diseases of kings described above.

I woke up on my own at 7 am but stayed in bed lifting my legs and doing some exercises for my feet as well as inner thighs. I drank water, did my hygiene routine, and I’m outside walking 10000 steps. I’m feeling excellent and excited! It’s a sunny morning and my neighborhood smells like fresh green grass.

It’s 4:37 pm, and I’m so so hungry! But I’m definitely sticking to my water fasting plan. The hunger will disappear tomorrow. I’m writing on my blog finishing the list of 52 Devotionals. I’m a bit dizzy but I’m home so it’s fine. I can do this!

It’s 5:29 pm and I finished two blogs. I’m super-hungry but my health mission matters so I’m staying committed to my decision to fast on water.

It’s 9 pm, and I have a terrible headache. My hunger is in my stomach so I know it’s not real hunger. Not much noise anymore from my body demanding food. It’s settled. But I do feel light-headed. It’s good for my fat to be used! I’m going to bed. It was a very productive day, and I just finished publishing another blog post. No pooping today, though I worked out a lot.

My Tenth 24 Hour Water Fast 7-8-2020

Fasting is best for healing. After my trip to St. Simons Island, I felt sick and was itching, as well as having acne on my belly and chest. So, I fasted on water only. I completed my tenth water fast, and I’m so excited to have this healing tool and be able and willing to use it, which is difficult sometimes. It became difficult after 36 hours of water fasting due to an intolerable headache.

Yesterday I loaded on kale, bananas, veggies, and fruits. I’m trying to do a 7-day water fast. Falling asleep was hard because first I ate crap and second I drank coffee every day all day while on St. Simons Islands. I can’t sleep… My eyes are itching. My belly and chest have acne all over. I really want to give up animal food once and for all!

Now, it’s 8:13 pm. This was a hard day.

Somewhere around 4 pm until 5:30 pm, I had severe binge-cravings with images of colorful sushi and lamb kebob with baba ganoush and red wine… I let my intense craving pass, which was followed by a severe headache. I drank nothing but water and ate nothing.

I did a few loads of laundry, unloaded the dishwasher, went to the pool and practiced my handstands, walked 10000 steps, and also went to the store to get my fruits and veggies for when I’m ready to break the water fast. I did my ab and arm workout, too.

I did some work, watched two food documentaries (PlanEat was so interesting!), and now I feel like this was a good day, though fighting my food cravings was very hard. I’m committed this time to transition to a fully plant-based diet for the rest of my life.

Instead of thinking about what I lack, I focused on the beautiful processes of autophagy, epigenetics, and ketosis, which I have an opportunity to undergo. A landscaping Engineer today here at the Lodge was shocked and in disbelief when he discovered that I am 37. He said I looked younger than 25! Well, that’s fasting, self-care, and my Whole-Foods Plant-Based Diet paying off! Thank God for these miraculous tools to optimize my overall health and wellness.

I watched “The Gut Our Second Brain.”

It’s 10:30 pm and I’m going to bed.

I feel hungry but not severely. No stomach noises or pain. Just a headache. I feel relatively good, and I’m so grateful for this opportunity to fast on water. My body is adjusting very well! It’s a great habit. My acne is disappearing already. I pooped one time early in the day.

My Eleventh 24 Hour Water Fast 7-21-2020

This is a new addition to the original blog post. I just finished my eleventh water fast last night, and it gets easier and easier with practice. Every time I do it, there’s a new breakthrough. My relationship with myself and with God is getting better and better the more I fast on water.

Such a simple health practice, so many benefits!

My day 1 of water fasting number 11. Feeling excellent and ready to fast, though I’m on my period (again). Actually, my menstrual periods became almost painless since I began water fasting this year. Interesting!

This is a blessing. This time, I was able to run two miles non-stop on my period, which sounds unbelievable to me, given how much menstrual pain I’ve had every single month since I turned 12, for 25 years now!

I woke up in my own, very joyful, drank water, did my leg stretches, prayed, and did my morning routine after I pooped, which was almost immediately after I got up. Then, I ran some errands, did my chores around the house – laundry and dishes – and then I went to the pool to do 10000 steps on the trampoline while reading Tony Robbins’ “Awaken The Giant Within“. It was divine! Some chill jazz in my ear pods, dance with some jumping, and reading – all my favorite things at the same time!

I felt so happy!!!

Then, I came back home and took a shower, did some work, and workout my arms and abs. I pooped again around 6 pm, and I must say: this water fast is the most peaceful one ever. I have to intrusive thoughts of food, no desire to eat, no resentment toward myself for doing it.

I’m just so grateful to do this!

I watched this and this videos.

Also, I rewatched “The Science of Fasting” documentary.

I’ve been learning so much about nutrition and fasting this year! And this knowledge surely helps me thrive during the global COVID-19 pandemic. People are dying left and right but the last time I went to the doctor was in 2018 due to a car accident and then the flu.

It was two years ago!

Food can either heal or kill.

For me, this has been a journey of self-discovery, not just lifestyle transformation. Just like my mother taught me that sex was my essential need to live healthfully, which was crap because I haven’t had sex in almost four years and I’m thriving in all aspects of my life without sex, similarly, my mom taught me that I needed to eat often and in massive amounts and that fat, butter, milk, cheese, meat, organ meat, cottage cheese, sour cream, as well as alcohol, were essential for healthy living.

Today, my mom is severely obese and I had never seen her healthy in my 37 years on earth. She’s either sick or hospitalized or going through a surgery or getting ready for one.

My entire family is obese, and this year, I’ve taken a close look at my beliefs regarding food and the process of eating. This has been such a healing journey! As a result, I’m no longer obsessed about food and can fast on water only for extended periods of time.

It’s been a wonderful day. I feel privileged to be willing and able to fast on water regularly. I love having my mind free from the bondage with food. There are no more obsessive desire to eat or obsessive thoughts about consuming food in my head. This kind of special and unique peace comes from understanding how false my beliefs about food were, all embedded in my head in my childhood and later manipulated by the food-addicted American culture.

My body shaped up really well, and I love how I look now. I have my muscles healthy but not bulky and I ditched the excess fat. I feel high energy and peaceful. It’s such a blessing! I thank God for leading me toward water fasting to renew my physical, emotional, spiritual, and mental health. Peace and joy – that’s how I feel.

There’s nothing I want or need.

I feel literally euphoric.

It’s 10 pm, and I was falling asleep peacefully when my skin started itching from dryness, so I moisturized my body.

I brushed my teeth very well, and now I’m going to sleep. My eleventh water fast in the last two years is complete!

This is the end of my water fasting diary.

As you can see, some days are easier than others.

I promised to share all my failed attempts as well.

My Failed One Day Water Fast Attempts:

Practice makes perfect. If you attempt a 24 hour water fast but fail, document you thoughts and feelings in a journal. Failing leads to learning but only if you do dedicate the time, energy, and effort to examining what had happened. So, examine what happened and you can learn a lot about yourself. I share my own discoveries in a blog post called “What To Expect on a Prolonged Fast.”

My hope is that now you feel really encouraged. Below another picture of me from a few weeks ago right outside my door on the river. I love wearing bright and beautiful dresses because, finally, I feel great in my body! This is a very special blessing. Why? Because I do remember being depressed, not willing to even shower, wearing pjs and staying home for months, and contemplating suicide because my ex-husband betrayed me, rejected me, cheated on me, and told me regularly how much I did not matter to him. Healing from all that was very difficult.

But it’s new season of life.

I have experienced God’s healing.

He restored my mental and physical wellness.

I love life! I love being alive! I love being healthy!

Below, I’m going to show you my water fasting results in pictures. Be aware that the results of fasting on water that you see in my pictures did not take place overnight. They took place over time. One 1 day water fast at a time. It’s the compound effect of regular fasting that ensures your successful weight management and optimization of your physique.

So, as you review my 24 hour water wast weight loss results – achieved one 24 hour water fast at a time, over time – make sure you keep in mind the invisible benefits that accompanied my physical body transformation: self-confidence improvement, higher levels of positive energy, sharper mental focus, trauma healing, depression recovery, deeper goodnight sleep, and enhanced insulin sensitivity to prevent diabetes and illnesses associated with the metabolic syndrome.

In clinical trials, caloric restriction and fasting result weight loss and improvement in insulin sensitivity.

Fasting: Is the Wait Worth the Weight?

There are many opinions as to whether or not you should exercise during a water fast. Sometimes, On day one of my water fast, I typically do work out. Also, I exercise every day in a fasted state in the morning after not eating for over 12 hours because. This helps burn my body’s fat storage after depleting glycogen quickly and effectively, every day.

Fasting is defined as abstinence from consuming food and/or beverages for different periods of time. Both traditional and modern healthcare systems recommend fasting as a therapeutic intervention for the management of several chronic, non-infectious diseases.

Exercising during a fasting state increases lipolysis in adipose tissue while also stimulating peripheral fat oxidation, resulting in increased fat utilization and weight loss.

Exercise Training and Fasting: Current Insights

Here are my 24 hour water wast weight loss results. I am 37 years old. My hight is 5’10” and my weight is 116 lb. My size is XS, and I feel the best I ever felt in my entire life. I’m blessed to not go to doctors, hospitals, or ER rooms for any reason. I don’t take any drugs. I’m active and live a very joyful life, experiencing deep gratitude for my healthy body and strong mind. I remember my days of various illnesses with horror and grief. Life is so much better when I’m healthy!

5 Day Water Fast No Food

My Water Fasting Acne Results

I never had acne. My skin was always clean and glowing, and I got complimented on it regularly. When in 2016, I got married and experienced narcissistic relationship abuse in my marriage, not only was I manipulated by cruel techniques into a deep dark depression, but also I started having acne. The man I was married to was used to being morbidly obese and ate massive amounts of processed cheese and other crap. That was what I ended up eating, too.

My face started getting red acne. It was ugly and painful. And I was already in my 30s at the time. To cover it up, I used makeup, which made things even worse. So, that is why today I am such an advocate for water fasting and a plant-based diet: these simple tools healed my acne, and my skin is glowing with health again!

I’m 37 now. My unedited iPhone picture is below.

Acne vulgaris is a pilosebaceous gland disease that usually affects people from puberty to young adulthood. It is seen especially on the face, neck, trunk, and arms.

The main pathogenic factors of acne are high sebaceous gland secretion, follicular hyperproliferation, high androgen effects, propionibacterium acnes colonization, and inflammation.

Diet is a reason for acne. The study was conducted to determine the effect of insulin resistance in severe acne vulgaris. The results suggest that insulin resistance plays a role in the pathogenesis of acne.

Insulin resistance in severe acne

Insulin resistance causes acne. What causes insulin resistance? Bad diet! Eating meat, cheese, milk, eggs, fast food, and processed food causes insulin resistance, which leads to acne.

There’s another study that shows that acne is the result of metabolic syndrome. Before we review that research, I want to bring to your attention the scientific evidence that insulin resistance is a very symptom of the metabolic syndrome. What am I saying? Whoever has insulin resistance has metabolic syndrome.

Metabolic syndrome is a collection of cardiometabolic risk factors that includes obesity, insulin resistance, hypertension, and dyslipidemia.

This clustering of risk factors is unequivocally linked to an increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

Based on the current population estimates, nearly 100 million have metabolic syndrome. It is often characterized by insulin resistance.

Metabolic Syndrome and Insulin Resistance

We established that insulin resistance is known to cause acne and that insulin resistance is a symptom of the metabolic syndrome. Next, I want to show you the scientific evidence of the link between acne and metabolic syndrome. Remember that whoever has metabolic syndrome already suffers from insulin resistance.

Acne isn’t the cause of a disease – it’s a symptom of a serious disease. Acne indicates inflammation in the body. Whoever has acne has severe inflammation in the body that is invisible, except through acne. That’s why when I heard how my coworker lost all his hair from the acne pills doctor gave him, I was puzzled: why give dangerous acne pills to a dude when clearly what he needs is to stop eating junk food?

When you see acne, know that the gut is inflamed.

The increasing prevalence of Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a worldwide health problem, and the association between MetS and skin diseases has recently attracted growing attention.

In this review, we summarize the associations between MetS and skin diseases, such as psoriasis, acne vulgaris, hidradenitis suppurativa, androgenetic alopecia, acanthosis nigricans, and atopic dermatitis.

To discuss the potential common mechanisms underlying MetS and skin diseases, we focus on insulin signaling and insulin resistance, as well as chronic inflammation, including adipokines and proinflammatory cytokines related to molecular mechanisms. A better understanding of the relationship between MetS and skin diseases contributes to early diagnosis and prevention.

Acne vulgaris is an inflammatory disorder of the pilosebaceous unit, which affects many adolescents and young adults. A cross-sectional study was performed by comparing the metabolic conditions in 100 male acne patients and 100 male controls. It showed that the prevalence of metabolic syndrome tends to be higher in acne patients and also that prevalence of insulin resistance is significantly higher in acne patients. Another study of 243 acne patients and 156 controls also found that fasting insulin levels were significantly higher in acne patients.

Metabolic Syndrome and Skin Diseases

We just learned that people with acne suffer from insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome. Let’s explore further what causes acne so that we can understand how exactly water fasting cures skin diseases.

Nutrition and food are some of the most complex aspects of human lives, being influenced by biochemical, psychological, social, and cultural factors.

The Western diet is the prototype of modern dietary patterns and is mainly characterized by the intake of large amounts of red meat, dairy products, refined grains, and sugar.

Large amounts of scientific evidence positively correlate the Western diet to acne, obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and cancer, the so-called “diseases of civilization.”

The main characteristics of the Western diet are a high glycemic load, increased intake of animal proteins and milk and its derivates, all of these being known to overstimulate mammalian target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1).

The state of increased activation of (mTORC1) has been linked to obesity, metabolic syndrome, cancer, neurodegenerative diseases, and early aging.

Despite their low glycaemic indexes (GI), both fermented and non-fermented milk products induce three- to six-fold higher insulinemic responses. The glutamine and the essential branchedchain amino acids (BCAAs), such as leonine, isoleucine, and valine, promote mTORC1-mediated insulin synthesis and secretion in the pancreatic cells.

Thus, milk and dairy, which are enriched in essential BCAAs, enhance mTORC1 levels. Additionally, mTORC1 activation is also promoted by leucine, an insulinotropic amino acid found in milk proteins. The development of insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes mellitus can be accurately predicted by the persistence of elevated BCAA levels.

Acne has become an almost universal disease in Western societies, with prevalence rates of 79-95% in the adolescent population, 40-54% in individuals over 25 years of age, and 3-12% in middle-aged persons.

Acne is currently considered an obvious result of imbalanced nutrition induced by the Western diet, a well-known factor that exaggerates insulin/IGF-1 signaling.

Western diet could be regarded as a maximized Neolithic diet, characterized by increased consumption of hyperglycemic carbohydrates and dairy products, which are known to increase insulin levels, IGF-1 production, and mTORC1 signaling, key elements of acne pathogenesis.

Diseases of Civilization – Cancer, Diabetes, Obesity and Acne

We just learned from this study that dairy products overstimulate mammalian target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1), the state of increased activation of which has been linked to obesity, metabolic syndrome, cancer, neurodegenerative diseases, and early aging. And of course, we already learned that metabolic syndrome causes acne. So, knowing that dairy products cause metabolic syndrome helps us conclude that dairy products cause acne. We also learned that “Acne is currently considered an obvious result of imbalanced nutrition.”

Water fasting reduces insulin resistance, which I explained in my blog post called “Benefits of Water Fasting.” So, I had acne because of a negative lifestyle with the narcissist. After our divorce, I started fasting on water and eating a plant-based diet, which normalized my insulin sensitivity and the condition of my gut. My acne went away as soon as my metabolic health returned. It’s that simple!

If you are eager to explore more science behind acne disappearance in response to water fasting, here’s an additional study I recommend.

Skin serves as the first protective line and barrier of the body. Like many other organs, skin can be affected by several disorders in response to external factors such as pathogens, ultraviolet light, and pollution, as well as endogenous alterations related to aging and/or oxidative stress disturbance. Researchers have reported new insights into how skin cells are altered in response to caloric restriction diets.

Fasting and Its Impact on Skin Anatomy

Below is an unedited, unfiltered iPhone picture of me from a few weeks ago. You can see that neither on my face nor on my chest do I have any acne. It’s all gone, thanks to regular water fasting and eating plants.

I love my glowing skin! It is not itching, not hurting, and not stressing me out. I love looking young, healthy, and natural. I carry no botox in my body and strongly believe that God designed each of us in His own image: perfect, exactly how we need to be. All we need to do is not to mess up His marvelous work by our bad lifestyle choices.

The secret to natural beauty is water fasting, feasting on plants, good sleep, guided meditation for stress relief, and lots of time outside. I exercise daily somewhere near water: on the beach when I travel, on the river outside my front door, or at the pool when no one is there.

Here’s what 37 looks like when you fast on water!

Self-Care: 12 Ways to Take Better Care of Yourself

My Water Fasting and Autophagy Results

Before I began my water fasting journey, I was very sick: I had ear infections, sinus infections, fatigue, depression, acne, bloating, insomnia, and even suicidal ideation from enduring just some of the examples of narcissistic abuse shared here on this blog. Our bodies have a very unique built-in natural way to heal, and it’s called autophagy, which can be activated by water fasting.

What is autophagy? It’s a process of your healthy cells eating up your old and sick damaged cells (self-eating). What? Yes! It’s a natural healing technology built-in by the inventor whose name is God to help you stay young longer and live a healthy life. Let’s see what the science says!

Autophagy is an essential, conserved lysosomal degradation pathway that controls the quality of the cytoplasm by eliminating protein aggregates and damaged organelles.

It begins when double-membraned autophagosomes engulf portions of cytoplasm, which is followed by the fusion of these vesicles with lysosomes and degradation of the autophagic contents.

In addition to its vital homeostatic role, this degradation pathway is involved in various human disorders.

Autophagy occurs at a basal rate (a basal rate is the minimum amount of insulin required to manage normal daily blood glucose fluctuations) in most cells, eliminating protein aggregates and damaged organelles in order to maintain cytoplasmic homeostasis.

This includes the degradation of dysfunctional mitochondria via mitophagy, a cytoprotective process that limits both the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and the release of toxic intramitochondrial proteins.

Autophagy may be inhibited or activated.

Autophagy is stimulated during starvation.

Starvation-induced autophagy, an evolutionarily conserved response in eukaryotes, enables the degradation of proteins, carbohydrates, and lipids, which allows the cell to adapt its metabolism and meet its energy needs.

Autophagy as a potential therapeutic target for diseases

We have learned just now that not eating any food activates autophagy and helps our body heal itself. That is how my sick and wornout body, which was exhausted from driving to work 100 miles every day after I got married and moved to be with my spouse, traumatized by his cruel narcissistic abuse, overwhelmed by the highly-stressful living environment, and sick from the processed food at home, was able to recover and renew itself. Even my hair, which was falling out massively, grew out and I now have baby hair all the time!

Autophagy is a fundamental intracellular homeostatic process that is of interest both for its basic biology and for its effect on human physiology in a wide spectrum of conditions and diseases.

Autophagy was first appreciated primarily as a metabolic and cytoplasmic quality control process, but in the past decade, its role in immunity has been steadily growing.

The connections between these aspects beckon explorations of the network and connections that exist between metabolism, quality control, and inflammation and immunity processes, which are so key to many human diseases, including neurodegeneration, obesity, and diabetes, chronic inflammatory conditions, cancer, infection, and aging.

Autophagy and inflammation

Today, people say I look ten years younger. Yes, I do, and it’s because of water-fasting-induced autophagy! It reverses aging and heals the body from inside out. It’s the magic pill that costs nothing, except for some discomfort associated with fasting on water regularly.

Science says that even a 1 day fast turns on autophagy.

Short-term fasting leads to a dramatic upregulation in neuronal autophagy. The increased neuronal autophagy is revealed by changes in autophagosome abundance and characteristics, and by diminished neuronal mTOR activity in vivo, demonstrated by a reduction in levels of phosphorylated S6 ribosomal protein in Purkinje cells.

The increased abundance of autophagosomes in Purkinje cells was confirmed using transmission electron microscopy.

Our data lead us to conclude that sporadic fasting represents a simple, safe, and inexpensive means to promote this potentially therapeutic neuronal response.

Short-term fasting induces profound neuronal autophagy

Here’s a picture of me from a few days ago when I traveled to the beach. I share my self-care travel adventures on this blog in detail. I remember what it was like to be sick, tired, and disinterested in activities, when I wanted to stay on a couch, eat, watch TV, or sleep all day.

Today, I don’t own a TV! I live my life actively.

When other beach visitors much younger than me drink and eat crap on the beach all day, unable to move and exhausted by severe inflammation in their bodies, I ran barefoot for miles and thank God for His divine healing, for the magic wand of longevity and health, which is water fasting, and for giving me a second chance at living my life to the fullest.

That’s what I want for you, too.

Try a 1 day fast!

Water Fasting Benefits

Water Fasting and PTSD Results

During that marriage with the narcissist, I was diagnosed with Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (C-PTSD). The trauma he imposed on me was severe and complex. It took a long time to heal those wounds, and fasting on water regularly helps me live my life peacefully. When I was married to him, I began experiencing regular panic attacks and crying spells. I had severe flashbacks, and could be set off by anything, even after I moved out to my new safe and peaceful home.

Once I started fasting on water, my brain health improved. I haven’t had a panic attack in a very long time, and every day, I am able to manage my mind effectively. I regularly fast on water. My life is productive and joyful. I feel mostly peaceful every day.

Emotional memory is vital to the survival and development of individuals. However, excessive fear and anxiety can cause fear-related disorders, such as posttraumatic stress disorder.

The core feature of fear-related disorders is an excessive fear response to traumatic reminders.

Studies have shown that fasting, or caloric restriction, can enhance extinction and inhibit the return of fear. The present study examined the effects of fasting on fear acquisition, extinction, and the return of fear in humans.

One-night fasting had no effect on fear acquisition but enhanced fear extinction retention and prevented the return of fear, and this effect persisted for at least 6 months. This procedure was also effective for remote fear memory.

These findings indicate that fasting enhances extinction retention and prevents the return of fear, without influencing fear memory formation. We propose that this novel procedure may open new avenues for promoting extinction-based therapies for fear-related disorders.

Fasting enhances extinction retention and prevents the return of fear in humans

As I’m writing this, I cry the tears of joy. Waking up with a smile on my face every day is so different today from the miserable life I lived with the narcissist who threatened me and practiced mental cruelty on me, which resulted in suicidal ideation, depression, and other symptoms of the narcissistic victim syndrome.

I still have all my journals where I documented being unable to breathe and feeling suffocated from anxiety, which all began after I married the narcissist and moved in with him. Today, I live in peace.

Water fasting has no side effects of drugs.

Even a 1 day fast performed regularly is very effective at reducing C-PTSD symptoms. You learned from the scientific research above that a 24 hour water fast can help improve fear-related disorders of the brain. I passionately encourage fasting of water. Why? Because I personally experienced overall health optimization since I began water fasting!

Water Fasting and Depression Results

I mentioned a lot the depression I experienced as a result of narcissistic abuse. I wrote many articles about my depression recovery and what I did to get better. I never took any medications but I practiced water fasting, gratitude journaling, exercise, healthy diet, and meditation.

What does the science say?

Let’s explore!

Acute fasting induces antidepressant‐like effects.

Fasting is helpful against depression.

The mechanism of acute fasting‐induced antidepressant‐like effects

“Fasting” may be defined as a voluntary abstinence from food and drink for specified, recurring periods of time, with the fasting periods typically ranging from 12 hours to three weeks in humans.

Like many of the organisms that preceded them in evolution, pre-agricultural humans endured regular periods of food scarcity. Humans have been hunter-gatherers for two million years; it was only a relatively short 12,000 years ago that the transition to agriculture occurred. Thus, post-agricultural humans may not have had sufficient time to fully adapt to the continuous food supply provided by farming, which may in part explain the later introduction of voluntary fasting practices by the majority of civilizations on earth.

Fasting is deeply entrenched in evolution, yet its potential applications to today’s most common, disabling neurological diseases remain relatively unexplored. Fasting induces an altered metabolic state that optimizes neuron bioenergetics, plasticity, and resilience in a way that may counteract a broad array of neurological disorders. In both animals and humans, fasting prevents and treats metabolic syndrome, a major risk factor for many neurological diseases.

In human cancers, including cancers that involve the brain, fasting ameliorates chemotherapy-related adverse effects and may protect normal cells from chemotherapy. Fasting improves cognition, stalls age-related cognitive decline, usually slows neurodegeneration, reduces brain damage, and enhances functional recovery after stroke, and mitigates the pathological and clinical features of epilepsy and multiple sclerosis in animal models.

Fasting induces the coordinated alteration of many metabolic and transcriptional mechanisms that may influence neurons. Collectively, these alterations produce a whole-body, altered metabolic state that optimizes neuron bioenergetics, plasticity, and resilience to stress, culminating in maintained – or even enhanced – cognitive performance.

Following 12–36 hours of fasting, the human body enters a physiological state of ketosis characterized by low blood glucose levels, exhausted liver glycogen stores, and the hepatic production of fat-derived ketone bodies, or ketones, which serve as a major energy source for the brain. The liver is the primary site of ketogenesis, but brain astrocytes also generate ketones. Within several days of initiating a fast, ketones become the brain’s preferred fuel source, providing up to 70% of its energy requirements. Ketones constitute a more efficient source of energy per unit oxygen in muscles, and possibly in the brain, enhancing neuron bioenergetics and cognitive performance; for example, it has been shown that rodents subjected to a ketone ester for five days exhibit improved spatial learning and memory.

Yet ketones are more than just an energy source for neurons; the primary blood ketone, beta-hydroxybutyrate (BHB), also serves important signaling functions. In hippocampal and cortical neurons, BHB plays a vital signaling role by inducing the transcription of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) via its inhibition of histone deacetylases, enzymes that repress BDNF expression. BDNF is a pivotal regulator of neuron function; it stimulates mitochondria biogenesis, maintains synaptic structure, spurs the production and survival of new hippocampal neurons, and enhances neuron resistance to injury and disease.

Fasting as a Therapy in Neurological Disease

What we have just learned about the impact of water fasting on the brain explains the phenomena described in a popular documentary called The Science of Fasting” where a Russian physician allowed his mental health patient to not eat anything for an extended period of time, after which the patient’s brain health problems dissolved and he returned to a normal healthy life.

For me, it’s still scary to read my journals from that devastating depression period. I wrote a detailed essay called “What Depression Feels Like,” in which I described how my brain health was impaired. Today, regularly practicing a 1 day water fast, I am in great shape mentally!

I am Free - Affirmation by Anna Szabo

Water Fasting and Mental Health

I shared with you about the positive impact of doing a regular 24 hour water fast on my C-PTSD and depression. Also, my anxiety improved and insomnia went away. I sleep like a baby these days and wake up refreshed without an alarm with a smile on my face! Here’s more science on the impact water fasting has on brain health.

Recently, caloric restriction or fasting has been shown to be associated with significant improvements in brain function. Clinical evidence has also shown that fasting and caloric restriction dietary regime was effective in improving mood states, such as confusion, anger, and tension. Fasting can help protect against many brain diseases, such as epilepsy, Alzheimer’s, and others.

The mechanism of acute fasting‐induced antidepressant‐like effects

You just learned from the study above that a regular 24 hour water fast can help protect you against such brain diseases as epilepsy, Alzheimer’s, and others! There’s no drug that could do all that for you. That is why I wholeheartedly recommend a 1 day water fast as an overall wellness tool. Feeling peaceful and joyful every day is precious to me.

I love my life, and I love how I feel.

All these benefits are priceless and can’t be obtained by the means of meds or going to doctors or spending time in hospitals. Simply restricting your own food intake and doing a 1 day fast regularly can bless you with so much! God made us wonderfully, indeed!

Water Fasting and Metabolic Health Results

By now, you have no doubts that metabolic health, which is the health of your gut, significantly influences your physical and mental health. You’ve seen a great deal of scientific evidence, and hopefully, you’re now as interested in having a healthy gut as I am! Water fasting helps heal your gut, even it’s a regular 1 day fast.

Fasting is a term used to describe a variety of eating patterns in which no calories are consumed for time periods that can range from 12 hours to several days, on a recurring basis.

Here we focus on the physiological responses of major organ systems, including the musculoskeletal system, to the onset of the metabolic switch – the point of negative energy balance at which liver glycogen stores are depleted and fatty acids are mobilized (typically beyond 12 hours after cessation of food intake).

Emerging findings suggest the metabolic switch from glucose to fatty acid-derived ketones represents an evolutionarily conserved trigger point that shifts metabolism from lipid/cholesterol synthesis and fat storage to mobilization of fat through fatty acid oxidation and fatty-acid derived ketones, which serve to preserve muscle mass and function.

Thus, fasting regimens that induce the metabolic switch have the potential to improve body composition in overweight individuals. Moreover, fasting regimens also induce the coordinated activation of signaling pathways that optimize physiological function, enhance performance, and slow aging and disease processes.

Flipping the Metabolic Switch: Understanding and Applying Health Benefits of Fasting

So, you can see that the secret to me looking ten years younger than I actually am is truly genuinely fasting on water. I had never done any botox or injections of any sort but I do go without eating regularly!

Water Fasting Results - 1 day fast

You already know that metabolic issues are caused by insulin resistance and lead to a whole host of health issues: physical, emotional, and mental. I want you to note a very interesting study that demonstrates how metabolic syndrome, which results from dietary excess and junk food consumption, causes a very common among Americans brain disease: insulin resistance has been identified as a major risk factor for the onset of Alzheimer’s disease (AD). By doing a regular 1 day fast you can ensure the health of your brain!

Insulin is a key hormone regulating metabolism. Insulin binding to cell surface insulin receptors engages many signaling intermediates operating in parallel and in series to control glucose, energy, and lipids while also regulating mitogenesis and development.

Perturbations in the function of any of these intermediates, which occur in a variety of diseases, cause reduced sensitivity to insulin and insulin resistance with consequent metabolic dysfunction. Chronic inflammation ensues which exacerbates compromised metabolic homeostasis.

Since insulin has a key role in learning and memory as well as directly regulating ERK, a kinase required for the type of learning and memory compromised in early Alzheimer’s disease (AD), insulin resistance has been identified as a major risk factor for the onset of AD.

Insulin Resistance in Alzheimer’s Disease

I want to introduce you to another interesting scientific study that demonstrates how water fasting optimizes your metabolism and helps reduce obesity, hypertension, asthma, and rheumatoid arthritis.

Fasting has been practiced for millennia, but only recently studies have shed light on its role in adaptive cellular responses that reduce oxidative damage and inflammation, optimize metabolism, and bolster cellular protection.

In lower eukaryotes, chronic fasting extends longevity in part by reprogramming metabolic and stress resistance pathways. In rodents intermittent or periodic fasting protects against diabetes, cancers, heart disease, and neurodegeneration, while in humans it helps reduce obesity, hypertension, asthma, and rheumatoid arthritis.

Thus, fasting has the potential to delay aging and help prevent and treat diseases while minimizing the side effects caused by chronic dietary interventions.

Fasting: Molecular Mechanisms and Clinical Applications

When I talk about water fasting results, the list of benefits I personally experienced from a 1 day fast is endless. Whether you are considering a 24 hour water fast or a 72 hour water fast, or even if you’re just trying to go without food for as long as you can, I recommend fasting on water consistently. Even 13 hours is really good for you! Restrict your eating times and caloric intake and see how much your wellbeing will improve!

Water Fasting for a Day

Water fasting for a day is both difficult and simple. You just don’t eat – it’s that simple. Yet, not eating is very difficult at first because of the social, emotional, and neurological associations with both food and the process of eating. That’s why is so important to know the reason why you do it. Without a strong supportive reason, it’s hard to sustain a 1 day fast.

There are emotional temptations to eat. There are friends, neighbors, coworkers, and relatives to explain yourself to and, trust me, they will do everything to talk you out of your fasting commitment. There are physical hunger pangs. There is your normal and natural instinct to grab food since it’s available everywhere and your brain doesn’t register a famine. There’s you rebelling mentally against yourself for causing this artificial famine to yourself. There are the smells of food on every corner, at every grocery store, in the office, at the neighbor’s house, and even your neighborhood pool!

I failed a 1 day fast many times.

I know what it’s like to feel tempted, hungry, or uncomfortable to say no to food. Trust me, I’ve been there and I’ve done it. I broke my 1 day fast repeatedly. That’s why I’m warning you: a 24 hour water fast is tough.

Fasting on water is a battle: you against the world and even yourself! Why fight the battle? You actually are in a war, and no one asked for your permission. Who is the enemy? The Department of Agriculture, which I explain in my blog about Plant-Based Diet Documentaries.

No one asked for your agreements or participation letter, yet you are in a fight. You either fight the battle of short-lived discomfort associated with a 1 day fast or you fight the battle with cancer, diabetes, heart disease, arthritis, dementia, Alzheimer’s, obesity, early aging, premature death, and various disabilities even if you’re alive.

The profit motive is powerful. Money-minded moguls are out to get you with drugs-loaded chips, chemicals-loaded processed food, hormones-loaded milk, cancer-causing meat, and other crap. Ice creams, chocolates, soft drinks, fast food, and white bread are dangerous weapons in the hands of the meat and dairy producing giants. They want to hook you on crap and get you sick, then pass you to the Big Pharma so that you can never be healthy again and spend your life addicted to crappy food-like substances, drug pills, doctors, and hospitals.

You are in a battle either way.

You choose which one!

Which battle do you choose?

Let me know in the comments below!

Water Fasting 1 Day a Week

I just finished my eleventh water fast, and I fasted for two days. Since I’m already at my ideal weight, I’m planning to do water fasting 1 day a week, so I can fast on water four or five times a month instead of just one but for shorter periods. At this point, doing a one day fast is a breathe for me, and I want to try fasting more often.

When I’m not fasting, I’m eating lots of fiber.

Why?

Let’s examine the science!

A cross-sectional design was used to evaluate the relationship between fiber intake and insulin resistance, indexed using HOMA (homeostatic model assessment), in a National Health and Nutrition Examination Study (NHANES) sample of 6374 U.S. adults.

Another purpose was to compare HOMA levels between two groups based on the recommended intake of 14 g of fiber per 1000 kilocalories (kcal). Fiber intake was measured using a 24-h recall.

With demographic variables controlled, results showed that HOMA differed across High, Moderate, and Low fiber categories (F = 5.4, p = 0.0072). Adjusting for the demographic variables, the possible misreporting of energy intake, smoking, and physical activity strengthened the relationship (F = 8.0, p = 0.0009), which remained significant after adjusting for body fat (F = 7.0, p = 0.0019) and body mass index (BMI) (F = 4.9, p = 0.0108), with the other covariates.

However, the fiber–HOMA relationship was eliminated after adjusting for waist circumference (F = 2.3, p = 0.1050). Dividing participants based on the recommended 14-g standard resulted in meaningful HOMA differences (F = 16.4, p = 0.0002), and the association was not eliminated after controlling for waist circumference.

Apparently, adults with high fiber consumption have less insulin resistance than their counterparts.

Fiber Intake and Insulin Resistance in 6374 Adults

To stay in shape, I eat high volumes of fiber by consuming kamut, buckwheat, farro, amaranth, and other ancient grains. I eat broccoli, cauliflower, brussels sprouts, potatoes and beets with the peel, kale, cabbage, tomatoes, cucumbers – all veggies and fruit with the peel.

People often think that they hate dieting so they just eat whatever they want. But a closer examination of their eating shows that they in fact are on a diet – the Standard American Diet (SAD). They don’t eat whatever they want. They eat whatever the profit-motivated processed-food titans got them addicted to, on purpose, by advertising to them high-fat high-salt low-nutrients products that trap those people forever in the pleasure trap making them “fat, sick, and miserable” in the words of Dr. Alan Goldhamer. So, they surely are on a SAD diet, and it’s due to their food addiction, not their conscious choices. Who would ever choose to eat deadly junk that kills you and makes you suffer from various diseases?

So, each of us in practicing a diet, meaning a certain pattern of nutrition intake. I am a whole-foods plant-based vegan nutritarian. I recommend watching this video about the nutritarian diet. What you can find out from the presentation by Dr. Fuhrman is the following.

Three Ways to Get Overweight

  1. Toxic hunger
  2. Emotional eating
  3. Recreational eating

True hunger only exists to protect your body from breaking. Most Americans go from one anabolic phase to the other and never enter the catabolic phase of rest and repair. Anabolic phase means you’re eating. Catabolic phase means your body is repairing itself in a state of metabolic rest, aka no food intake. Consuming animal products and overeating keep people from experiencing the health benefits of the catabolic phase.

“The less frequently you eat, the longer you live”

“The best time not to eat is the time before bedtime, night time”

Dr. Joel Fuhrman

You don’t need calories for energy because your body will burn fat for energy.

Dr. Joel Fuhrman

“You must go to bed on an empty stomach. Allow yourself at least four hours without any food before you go to bed. When you feel hungry at night, go to sleep, don’t eat.”

Dr. Joel Fuhrman

“If you’re never getting hungry, there’s something wrong with you. You’re either in a stage of constant overeating or animal-products  anabolic phase”

Dr. Joel Fuhrman

“Focus on eating for nutritional quality. Eat an anti-cancer diet. Eat to live”

Dr. Joel Fuhrman

“People are waking up all over the country. How much death and dying can you see and don’t care? Fast food, animal products, and overeating kill people. Americans die 45 years prematurely. It’s time to wake up!”

Dr. Joel Fuhrman

Dr. Joel Fuhrman says people look to food for comfort:

  • to cope with abuse
  • to cope with loneliness
  • to cope with withdraw from addictions
  • to cope with past trauma
  • to cope with painful feelings

“You’re responsible for your health – not your doctor”

Dr. Joel Fuhrman

“The average American woman is 65 lb overweight and a man us 80 lb overweight”

Dr. Joel Fuhrman

“The only proven methodology to expand a human lifespan and improve quality of health is this: moderate caloric restriction in an environment of micronutrient excellence. This has been reproduced study after study: eat more food, with less calories, rich in nutrients, fully plant-based, and only when you’re truly hungry.”

Dr. Joel Fuhrman

“Diseases are not natural. They are unnatural. We eat unnatural foods – we have bizarre diseases happen to us”

So, now you know how I eat when I’m not fasting.

I will be doing a 1 day fast more often now by water fasting 1 day a week. I’ll continue sharing my 24 hour water fast experiences here, so bookmark this page and come back often!

Science-Proved 24 Hour Water Fasting Benefits

I love science! In this article, I shared with you so much about my personal experience of a 24 hour water fast and my own water fasting results. I would like to give you a list of research studies that you can learn more from, and that perspective is scientific.

Here are the articles I recommend:

So, what are the science proved water fasting benefits?

Autophagy, improvements in the DNA through epigenetics, ketosis and fat reduction, improving insulin sensitivity, reversing metabolic syndrome, reducing or reversing obesity, preventing cancer, healing arthritis, stopping inflammation in the body, improving brain health, curing acne, enhancing sleep, and weight loss.

How To Survive Day 1 of a Water Fast

When you first get started, not eating will be torturous. I recommend trying again and again when you fail. How to survive day 1 of a water fast is a big question, especially if you’re planning to go for longer. If you’re just getting started, do a 1 day fast first for a while.

My suggestion is to do it in secret “so that it will not be obvious to others that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you” –  Matthew 6:18. Additionally, I suggest that you don’t view a one day water fast as deprivation but see it as a privilege.

What I suggest to eat before fasting are fruits and vegetables, as well as healthy dozes of fiber, especially legumes and ancient grains. Whatever you eat before will end up sitting there in your colon, so make sure it’s good stuff. Working out is fine if you do it in the morning but at the end of your 24 hour water fast you might be tires. If you can stay home, I’d do that, especially when you’re just starting out.

Those are just some of my tips regarding how to survive day 1 of a water fast or a 1 day fast, however long you plan to go. Make sure that if you start vomiting bile, you stop fasting and try again after a period of refeeding. Let me answer some frequently asked questions.

Is it safe to fast 1 day a week?

Yes, fasting on water for a day is safe for anyone who has no chronic diseases and is not taking meds. Your body has glycogen storages to supply your brain with “food” it needs, plus, you have fat stored in your body, which you won’t be using for the first 48 hours of water fasting, so you’ll just cleanse and detox a little bit but you’ll also experience the benefits of autophagy for sure and renew your genes. Read 30 day water fast weight loss results for some ideas as to how fasting regularly may affect your overall health.

How much weight do you lose on a 1 day water fast?

You will lose some water weight by doing a 1 day fast but you won’t get to your fat because for the first 48 hours, your body deploys its glycogen storages for fuel, not your stored fat. So, you’ll lose water weight, which will come back, and you’re unlikely to lose fat weight by fasting on water for just one day. However, if you do a 24 hour water fast weekly, you’ll change your body and it’s highly likely that you’ll lose fat weight over time. Read the section about my one day water fasting results to see how my body transformed, and keep in mind that I completed ten water fasting cycles.

How do I prepare for a one day fast?

To prepare for a 24 hour water fast, eat vegetables and fruits, as well as ancient grains and nuts for healthy fiber. You don’t want junk food sitting inside your color making you constipated. So, eat kale, tomatoes, apples, buckwheat, farro, celery, and other healthy foods that will make you poop easily before and after fasting, as well as won’t make you feel inflamed while you’re not eating. To prepare for a water fast, decide why you’re doing it. That is the key to sticking to your water fast. You can achieve better water fast results if you go into it with a strong why and a lot of fresh produce in your belly! Finally, to prepare for fasting, pray.

What happens if you fast for 24 hours?

Here’s what happens if you fast for 24 hours: your body will use its glycogen storages, eat up your bad or sick cells via the process called autophagy, you’ll be in a prolonged state of the catabolic phase when your body repairs itself, and you’ll feel renewed, refreshed, and recharged. By abstaining from food for a day or two regularly and drinking just water, you can achieve excellent physical and mental health related water fasting results.

How much weight can you lose in a 24 hour fast?

On a 24 hour fast you can lose up to 4 lb of water weight but you won’t lose any fat weight because, for your fat to be mobilized and deployed, you’d need to be in a state of ketosis, which only starts after 48 hours of water fasting. If you’re looking for fat-loss related water fast results, read my library of articles about fasting on water. You’ll witness how I lost my own fat weight by doing water fasting regularly. If you practice a one day water fast regularly and consistently, it is likely that you’ll lose fat weight, too, but it depends on what you look like now, what you eat when you feast, etc.

How many days is it safe to fast?

According to Dr. Michael Klaper, any person who is not on medications can safely fast on water for up to 72 hours. I personally have done a water fast ten times for up to five days at a time, at home, without any medical supervision. However, I am not a doctor and I’m not giving you medical advice. All I’m saying is this: you can achieve great water fasting results by fasting for a couple of days regularly at home if you’re not on any drugs. That being said, True North Health Center in CA offers supervised water fasting for up to 40 days. You should not try this at home.

Does a one day fast do anything?

Yes, a one day fast does a lot for your health optimization. Here is a short list of just some water fasting results you may experience by fasting for 24 hours regularly. Autophagy, improvements in the DNA through epigenetics, improving insulin sensitivity, reversing metabolic syndrome, reducing or reversing obesity, preventing cancer, healing arthritis, stopping inflammation, improving brain health, curing acne, enhancing sleep, and weight loss.

Is a 24 hour fast healthy?

Yes, fasting on water for a day is very healthy for anyone who is not on drugs, has no chronic diseases, is not pregnant, and is not breastfeeding. Some of the water fast results you can expect are enhanced wellbeing, improved skin, better sleep, overall repair in your body, greater longevity, and even a happier mood!

Can you exercise while fasting?

Yes, you can exercise while fasting for a day. I typically work out on day one of my water fast, and I’ve completed ten! In my article 30 day water fast weight loss results, I share how I go about it. Also, every day I work out in a fasted state in the morning after having no food for 16-19 hours, and actually, it’s recommended because it helps your body use up the storages of your glycogen and even get to your fat. It does take getting used to and you may initially feel extremely hungry but this feeling will go away shortly.

Then, it helped me lose weight, get healthy, and become very active.

I didn’t care about my body for many years.

Why? Because I didn’t see myself as worthy or valuable. Then, God drew me close and reveal to me who I really am, He guided me to discover, accept, and embrace my identity as precious, special, created on purpose, designed to do good work, worthy, valuable, and loved.

Today, I help women see themselves the way God sees them. I’ve specifically been focusing on identity in Christ. From the Bible, I discovered 52 incredibly-positive things God says about us as His daughters. Those 52 precious discoveries turned into 52 Biblical affirmations I created to encourage and empower Christian women.

To help share this life-changing information with you, I created an ebook called #52Devotionals. My free ebook helps you understand who God says you are. Don’t be vulnerable to identity attacks from the mainstream media, relatives, coworkers, your boss, society, culture, and the voices in your head. Stand firm and know what God says about you!
