Anna Szabo Hula Hoop Challenge at Henderson Beach State Park in Destin

Have you been looking for a new self-care challenge? I recommend the hula hoop workout challenge! My hula hooping adventures began early on in life when I attended kindergarten in Soviet Russia. We were all taught how to hula hoop during our daily physical education classes.

In my home growing up, there were three girls, and there was always a hula hoop, which I started using when I was in college at about 16 or 17 years old. I’d watch TV in my bedroom and exercise after classes.

Today, I will answer some important questions, such as “How long should you hula hoop each day?” and “Will hula hooping burn belly fat?” as well as “Does hula hooping trim your waist?” and Also, I will show you my hula hoop workout results.

My self-care challenge 2020 is to do a hula hoop workout at least 3-4 times a week for about 45 minutes. I started with just 5 minutes a day.

Introduction

This year, we as a country and the entire world experienced a lot of adversity: the Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic, the racial conflicts and violent protests accompanied by curfews enforced across many states, and skyrocketing rates of unemployment. This season has been tough.

I’ve coped by deleting social media apps off of my iPhone and increasing my self-care time as well as activities every day. That led me to re-start my regular hula hoop workout. First, it was a few minutes daily, but then, I decided to go to an hour.

How do I keep my mind engaged?

When hula hooping, I either talk on the phone to catch up with a friend or read a book. Typically, I hula hoop outside, on the river, so there’s a lot of beauty to enjoy if I’m listening to an audiobook, podcast, or an educational interview. As long as I’m learning something new, I can hula hoop for a very long time!

The result?

Flat stomach, smaller waist, and weight loss.

Hula Hoop Workouts for Fitness and Weight Loss

A couple of weeks ago, my neighbor came over to learn about my workout routine, see my BOSU ball, and learn how to hula hoop. I showed her that, to keep the hoop on the hip, there’s no need to move the hips too much. It’s a small movement, just a little push, and it takes some practice. Once she figured it out, she bought a hula hoop and began her journey to fun-filled fitness!

I recently lost a lot of weight.

How?

Caloric deficit, fasting on water, 10000 steps daily, kayaking adventures, and, of course, my hula hoop workout. That being said, it’s very important to note that I eat a plant-based diet. Flat stomach is determined 80% by diet and 20% by fitness. Hula hoop to lose belly fat while also eating lots of vegetables and fruits!

So, how did I incorporate a hula hoop workout for weight loss? I added it to my daily routine. I do an ab and arm exercise, then go for 10000 steps and may also run some, then, I do 45 min or even an hour of hula hoop while reading a book.

To me, the hula hoop workout is relaxing! Though it gets my heart rate up and makes me sweat. I do it in a fasted state, meaning after I wake up and before I eat, on about 15-18 hours of a water fast, and that helps my body burn the fat it stored already.

So, I lost nearly 20 lb recently!

One more thing to disclose here…

I love hula hooping on the BOSU ball!

To balance on the ball, I must activate my abs and keep them engaged at all times, otherwise, I’ll fall. This ensures that I’m having a mindful hula hoop workout while exercising my glutes, abs, and obliques.
