Christian Prayers for Health by Anna Szabo

Have you been struggling with your health? I know what it’s like to be physically ill and mentally out of balance. I am writing these three powerful Christian prayers for health for my own health right now. May these Spirit-inspired healing prayers be a blessing to you as well!

Introduction

We often don’t realize what our health is, what value it carries, and what influences our wellbeing, as well as what corrupts our overall wellness. The biggest struggles for me personally are food, water, exercise, social media, and sleep.

Food influences every aspect of my wellbeing: it can heal or kill. What I eat either gives me energy or headache. The things I put into my mouth can either rid my body of inflammation or cause it to get inflamed. The food I consume can either be filled with the nutrients my body needs and appreciates or it can contain chemicals my body despises and rejects.

Water is critical for my body, and I know it. However, I can often find myself feeling so dehydrated that it’s hard to believe I even have access to clean drinking water. Instead, I drink hot black Russian tea or coffee. Neither of those things hydrates my body though. Caught up in life, I can find my skin dry and peeling off of my face, my bowel movement disrupted, and my migraine at its peak – all because I forgot to drink water.

Exercise makes me feel great. It builds up my strength. I love moving daily. However, I often fall into the trap of busyness, and weeks can go by between the last and the next exercises included in my daily routine. And that’s the keyword, actually: we all live out a certain routine, whether we realize it or not. If we don’t intentionally design one, it means we’re living out some kind of routine someone else designed for us. Without exercise in my daily routine, I feel foggy-minded, weak, and tired. Yet, very often, when I look back to review my week, I find no exercise done at all.

Social media is addictive, draining, and mentally unhealthy when used without strong boundaries. For me, it’s easy to get sucked into the world of social media. Knowing how many deaths have been caused by social media through suicide-enticement, I know that to stay mentally strong, my use of social media must be limited, and I must fast from social media regularly.

RELATED: Christian Prayers for Peace

Sleep is something I figured out in 2018: if I go to bed at 8 pm and wake up at 4 am, I feel my best. I love that schedule and it loves me back! Yet… I don’t follow it too often. I slip into the late-night stay to catch up on work, then, I go watch a few YouTube videos, and boom, just like that, it’s 3 am and I am still up. Then, I sleep, wake up drained, tired, without any energy, and with my brain fogged and corrupted because it is not what it needs. If I simply give my brain the sleep schedule it needs, I contribute significantly to my wellbeing.

Why don’t I do what I need to do for my wellness all the time?

Distractions. They are the worst enemy of our health.

That’s what I’ll address with these healing prayers today. God gave us this beautiful world full of options to choose what we should eat, drink, do, and how to live, but also He granted us free will to make our own choices.

My prayers for health today will address this fundamental truth: God’s promises to us vs our own use of our free will.

God says that when we are tempted (by bad food, coffee, sedentary lifestyle, social media scrolling, and late-night work), He will give us an escape.

No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.

1 Corinthians 10:13

I can testify it’s absolutely true because I am an addict in recovery, so God rescued me from my addictions by giving me an escape from my temptations.

RELATED: My Addiction Story

Do you know what’s been compromising my health lately? My lack of any awareness of my temptations. Yes, just not paying attention to what I eat or drink or how much I move or don’t move, when I go to be and how much time I spend on my screen.

All those things always result for me in weight gain, acne and itchy face, sinus congestion and ear infections, feeling tired, having low back pain and neck-ache, and emotions being out of control.

So, today, I am on my water fast number four in the last two years, and I need not only prayers for health but healing prayers as well because I messed up my health a little, especially having gained 14 unwanted lb.

If you need the same thing in your season of life, I hope my prayers will bless you and help you get well and be well, consistently.

Healing Prayers

Standing of the promises of God whenever I need healing reminds me of His grace and goodness. Knowing that God is in my corner gives me confidence that I can experience healing from whatever I am enduring.

In 2016-2017, I was going through suicidal depression while enduring narcissistic abuse, and God delivered me. He also healed me from two addictions. He restored me during my car accident recovery in 2018-2019. I know that God’s promises are powerful when I need healing.

Here’s what else I know: faith without works is dead.

Faith Without Works Is Dead

14 What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? 17 So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.

18 But someone will say, “You have faith and I have works.” Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. 19 You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe—and shudder! 20 Do you want to be shown, you foolish person, that faith apart from works is useless? 21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered up his son Isaac on the altar? 22 You see that faith was active along with his works, and faith was completed by his works; 23 and the Scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness”—and he was called a friend of God. 24 You see that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone.

James 2:14-24

What is the meaning of this scripture when it comes to healing prayers or prayers for health?

It means that out of my belief that God can restore me back to health after the car accident must come a list of actions, consistent daily actions of eating good restorative food, attending physical therapy, journaling about my recovery, tracking my food consumption to monitor nutrients intake, performing brain exercises to recover from the concussion, and on and on. My works are based on my faith. The combination of doing something as a result of my belief led me to recovering from the car accident.

RELATED: What Is Faith?

Same thing happened with everything else I had mentioned: I understood God’s promises, I had faith, and I took action daily based on my faith in God’s promises. Today, I will share with you my prayers for healing. They won’t work unless you do the work.

Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.

Healing Prayer for Mental Confusion

Father God,

I'm confused and I need your clarity.

This confusion I'm experiencing is causing me significant mental disturbance and distraction. From this confusion, I am exhausted. By this confusion, I feel defeated.

You said "Whoever wavers in his mind is troubled in all his ways" and I do feel double-minded right now, so I do feel unstable in all areas of my life.

Heal me, Father God.

Please bless me with your divine answers to my current questions.

I need to know what you want me to do.

Hearing your voice in regards to the direction of my thinking and actions is so important to me, Father God.

I feel defeated and discouraged by this doouble-mindness, indecision, and confusion. I need your infinite intelligence.

You said that whenever I lack wisdom, I shall ask you and you will give it to me generously. Give me clarity and wisdom.

Reveal yourself to me in the way I cannot miss.

Show me the way. What must I do?

I want to honor you and obey your plan for my life.

How should I best think about my situation?

What is the best thing to do for me right now?

You promised to guide my steps and make my path straight if I lean on my Lord and not on my own understanding.

I'm ready to lean in, surrender, and follow your plan.

Speak to me, Father God, about this particular matter.

Lift me up. Rid me of my confusion, bless me with clarity.

Show me the path I must take to walk in your power and not mine.

My mind is puzzlled right now with all the options. I am paralyzed by analyzing all my choises. Thank you for my free will but I need your guidance.

I can't choose what is the right thing for me to do.

I'm so confused right now.

I surrender to you all my desires and I plea for your direction to be revealed. Make your will for me in this situation known and understood so that I can't confuse it with any other voices in my head.

Father God, you call me by my name. You number my hair.

You care so much for me. You love me unconditionally.

You knew me before I was even born. You are the only one who knows what I must do in this confusing sitution.

I know that confusion is not of God.

Father God, bless me with your clarity, give me the answers, and help me take the action in accordance with your revealed will.

In Jesus' marvelous holy name I pray.

Amen.

Whoever wavers in his mind is troubled in all his ways.

James 1-8

Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

1 Peter 1:13

If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.

 James 1:5

Trust in the Lord with all your heart

    and lean not on your own understanding;

in all your ways submit to him,

and he will make your paths straight

Proverbs 3:5-6

Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

James 4:8
I am clear and focused

God gave me the power of sound mind.
I'm clear. I'm focused. I'm disciplined.
Confusion and doubt are both behind.
I'm productive, and to the Holy Spirit I’m listening.

Healing Prayer for Physical Fatigue

Father God,

I am physically exhausted even when I just wake up in the morning.

I have no energy. My strength seems to have drained out of my body.

I am overcome by constant fatigue. I feel trapped.

I know you asked me to walk by faith, not by sight.

You gave me this life to enjoy it, do be active, to be engaged in life.

You called me to do the good works you had prepared in advance for me to do.

But I'm out of evergy, I can't do anythyng. I feel tired.

I can't take care of everything I'm responsible for in life.

I procrastinate and hope that I will feel better later.

Let me start taking action, in faith, regardless of what I see or how I feel, empower me to take the action I need to rebuild my strength.

You said that you, God, will restore my physical health.

Father God, bless me with physical healing.

Your grace is sufficient for me.

Your strength is perfected in my weakness.

Give me the energy I need every day to walk in your steps.

Make me strong. Restore my vitality.

Let me feel healthy, energized, active, vibrant, alive, and strong again.

In Jesus' precious name I pray.

Amen.

For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

Ephesians 2:10

The Lord sustains him on his sickbed; in his illness you restore him to full health.

Psalm 41:3

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

2 Corinthians 12:9-10
I am strong

I am strong in the power of the Lord
And in the strength of His might I stand.
I'm courageous and fearless, trusting His word.
He empowers me as I honor His every command.

Prayers for Health

What does health mean to you? What does it look like to be healthy?

Do you have a vision for your prayers for health?

I have plantar fasciitis. My left food will never recover its collapsed fascia but I know that I’ve come a long way since the car accident, and if I do my daily exercises, my foot will be ok. It won’t be 100% ok but it won’t be bothering me with excruciating pain every moment of every day.

I have scoliosis. Prayers for health won’t straighten my 37-year-old spine but when I do my stretches and exercises, fueled by my faith in God’s promises, I can live pain-free. If I don’t do my works and sit all day, my spine will hurt and I will be in pain. Healing prayers alone won’t help, I must do the works as the fruit of my faith. What does health look like? Not like a straightened spine but a pain-free spine where I can walk, work out, do an underwater handstand to practice my alignment and balance, and perform my regular chores.

I have acne-prone skin (it all began during my suicidal depression when I was married to the narcissist, until then, my 30s, I never had acne). My prayers for health aren’t focused on my request for God to clear up my acne overnight but for me to stay away from the food that causes inflammation in my body, which results in acne when it’s accompanied by high levels of stress. Having clear, glowing skin, for me is the result of eating well and managing stress effectively. That’s what health looks to me.

What about you?

I will share with you my prayers for health but you must be the one who understands what health looks like in your life.

In my life, health looks like my ability to breathe freely (I had struggled with sinuses all my life and one year had five bronchitis’s), to hold my balance by doing a handstand underwater (I never knew how to swim as a child and was so physically sick and weak that I wasn’t able to lift my legs up or hold my breath), and to take care of my own daily chores (cleaning, cooking, laundry, grocery shopping, taking my trash out, hanging my heavy paintings on the wall, moving furniture, I do it all and I like it that way).

Make sure you know what you’re working toward with these powerful, Spirit-inspired, scripture-based prayers for health.

Christian Prayer for Mental Health

Father God,

Everywhere I look (on social media, in the news, around my workplace and circle of friends), people post pictures of themselves being maniacally-happy and the next thing I know is they shoot themselves in the head or hang themselves.

Today's digitally-dominated, fake-news-infused, keep-up-with-the-joneses-enticed, superficially-connected, and make-believe-happiness-deceived life is an environment where I must at all times be watchful.

I must protect my mental health.

I must guard my headspace by monitoring what I watch, what I spend my time doing, whom I'm spending my time with, what I eat, what I drink, what I read, and how I live my life every day.

You asked me to be alert and sober-minded.

Let me establish and maintain healthy boundaries with people, work, and social media. Let me not get carried away by the busyness of life but be alert and watchful at all times, staying rooted in my faith.

Father God, this world tells me that I must be a certain way.

Pastors tell me whom I should believe, what I should say, and how I must seek wisdom in the world.

But let me not get distracted by pastors.

Let me not be deceived by lifestyle-convenient habitual Christianity.

Many Pastors talk the talk by don't walk the walk.

Pastors are humans.

They cheat on their wives, share their genitals via digital media, seduce their church coworkers, abuse their families, all while continuing to preach just because it's their job.

Pastors often don't have any faith.

Pastors commit violent crimes, adultery, and suicide.

Active-duty pastors who committed suicide in just a few recent years with a self-inflicted gunshot to the head:

Pastor DB Antrim of Westwind Church
Pastor Letsego of Christ Embassy Church
Pastor Andrew Stoecklein of Inland Hills
Pastor Teddy Parker of Bibb Mount Zion Baptist Church
Pastor Isaac Hunter of Summit Church
Pastor Ed Montgomery of Full Gospel Christian Assemblies International Church
Pastor David Huskins of the Cedar Lake Christian Center
Pastor Jim Howard of the Real Life Church
Pastor Jarrid Wilson of Harvest Christian Fellowship

All of the above pastors were actively preaching, serving on community boards, counseling their people, then, within hours of preaching or right before, killed themselves with a single self-inflicted gunshot wound either at their homes or inside their churches.

So, Father God, let me not get distracted by pastors, churches, habitual Christianity, performance-based religion, social media, workaholism, entertainment, the media, or culture.

Let me be faithful. Let me have faith. Let me practice my faith, not religion. Let me apply my faith through faithful daily action.

Let me spend time with you, God.

Let me not conform to the pattern of this world: the pattern of overworking, overspending, overeating, overconnecting, oversharing, and overstretching.

Let me look up to you, God, for wisdom, protection, bounderies, and my habits.

Let me seek you, God, every moment or every day, through my intimate relationship with Jesus Christ, my lord and savior.

Let me abide in your word. Let me hear your voice.

Let me bear your fruit, Father God.

Teach me how to guard my heart for it is a wellspring of life. Everything I do flows from it. It determines the course of my life.

Help me maintain my peace that passes all understanding, my supernatural, unexplainable peace that comes from abiding in Christ instead of walking in my own power.

Father God, in addition to peace, help me protect my joy.

Allow me to continue to feel, be human, and experience genuine joy, the joy of the Lord, the deep bliss, and the lasting delight.

Equip me with the effective and efficient habits to secure and protect my mental health, Father God.

Enable me to be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, and faithful in prayer.

Let me practice healthy daily routines that will guard my mind and ensure my mental health now and for years to come.

In Jesus' name I pray.

Amen.

Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

1 Peter 5:8

You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.

Jeremiah 29:13

Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me.

John 15:4

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.

Romans 12:2

Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.

Proverbs 4:23

Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:7

Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.

Romans 12:12
I am anointed

I am anointed, godly, and blissful.
I am wonderful, holy, and peaceful.
God's anointing remaining in me is real.
It reveals to me His grace and true zeal.

Christian Prayer for Physical Wellbeing

Father God,

I thank you for my body, my health, my every limb, eye, hair, and tooth. Thank you for giving me this temple that allows me to function.

I appreciate having my organs working properly. I value the health of my bones and the quality of my blood that is essential for my brain and the entire complex mechanism powering up my heart.

God, you are a miracle-worker.

You made me in your own image, and you blessed me with this body that I appreciate so much. Teach me how to take care of it properly.

Father, you gave me this complicated and comprehensive temple but it now come with an operational manual. So, teach me, father God.

What should I eat and how much?

How long should I rest everyday?

What activities must I prioritize to care for my body?

My physical health is the foundation of my energy, functioning, productivity, and service to you. I am here to be used by you, God.

Just like my car needs a maintenance routine, my body needs a maintenance routine, as well.

What is the optimal routine to care for my body, God?

Teach me, God, speak to me about food and fitness to ensure my longevity, fortitude, and felicity.

God, I know my body is sacred, and I am holy because your Holy Spirit lives in my scared body. Let me not destroy my body, your temple, but protect it in every way.

Show me, God, how I need to protect my physical health. Whether I eat or drink, let me do it in the way that will glorify you and ensure the physical health of my body, which is your sacred and holy temple.

In Jesus' name I pray.

Amen.

Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own

1 Corinthians 6:19

Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you?  If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy him. For God’s temple is holy, and you are that temple.

1 Corinthians 3:16-17

So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.

1 Corinthians 10:31
I am God's masterpiece

God created me not randomly but intentionally.
He crafted every part of me as His curious work.
He wants to perfect me to Christ-likeness eventually.
I am His precious and valuable artwork.
