Description
This ebook shares 10 Christian poems about identity in Christ. This Spirit-inspired spoken word poetry was birthed by me between 2017 and 2020 as I was facing divorce with my abuser, dealing with trauma from my childhood, and working through my suicidal depression. I was seeking to understand who I was, whose I was, and why I was even born.
Each of these spiritual poems came not from me but through me from God (John 7:38). These truths I’m sharing here are universal. They are applicable to millions of women around the world. How do I know? Women from all over the world write me letters. They tell me that my story is also theirs.
I had always suffered from identity confusion.
I was born out of wedlock to a mother who hated and abused me emotionally, physically, mentally, and sexually. My father was in jail. Raised in a home where I was surrounded by adulterous alcoholic relatives, I endured violence regularly. My mom, grandma, and aunt tried to kill me multiple times.
I share with you, through my Christian poems, the lessons I’ve learned about myself as a daughter of God. These spiritual breakthroughs came from the many painful trials and tribulations I faced in life. My hope is to encourage and empower you on your own journey. If you’re seeking to understand who you are in Christ, this poetry book is for you. I hope it comforts you with the same comfort I received from God. The ebook cover picture is that of me after I delivered my TEDx talk on September 19th of 2020 at 37 years old to share my story and give God all the glory.
God, I’m thinking negative thoughts again:
That I’m unworthy, unloved, unwanted, and unimportant.
They paralyze me, depress me, and really drain
All my energy out of me, even being inadvertent.
God, what do you think about me?
What words do you use to describe me?
What future for my life can you see?
And after you created me, do you actually like me?
